hudson ranch extra virgin olive oil

regular readers of my blog know that i am addicted to extra virgin olive oil...and living in the napa valley of california provides loads of options for excellent quality oil. so i knew i needed to add olive oil to my assortment...but just one. the one i use all the time...the one where i know the ranch, know the people and know their passion and commitment to excellence, quality and taste. what better place than the folks who provide my weekly csa box chock full of perfect, delicious, organic produce. and so it goes...the one extra virgin olive oil you really do need...not for cooking! (use our grapeseed oil for that) but for finishing...drizzling over grilled seafood, or steak, or vegetables, or pasta, or toasted bread...or anything! the 2009 olive oil has a rich golden chartreuse appearance. classically composed, it has incredible viscosity and notes of lemon, pepper and capers, followed by a mild bitter finish, perfectly appropriate to a tuscan style oil. although quite spicy, with an assertive finish, the 2009 is rounder and milder than the 2008. (500 ml bottle) now for the technical details: Blend: 45% Leccino, 30% Frantoio, 15% Maurino, 10% Pendolino Picked and Pressed: November 23 and 24, 2009 Yield: 28.29 Gallons Production: 40 cases of 500ml bottles Free Acidity: 0.03% (less than 0.5% = extra virgin olive oil) Peroxide Value: 4.6 meq/kg (needs to be less than 20)
