mare island is located 25 miles northeast of san francisco and was the first navy shipyard built on the west coast...was a major shipbuilding site during world war 2...the base was placed on the national historic landmark district in 1975 and has undergone a massive redevelopment phase...updating, remodeling and restoring many of the fantastic old buildings. in an effort to reuse as many of the discarded building materials as possible old wood, broken furniture, windows, doors, architectural components, hardware...etc were offered to local designers, artists, builders and craftspeople to be transformed into beautiful new/old pieces. david sipi is a local artist living in vallejo and has incorporated many of these items into his work...our mare island table is a perfect example...100% handcrafted from 100% repurposed materials......this is our second table from materials salvaged from the island... we used wood for the table top...and the base is the actual table base from a 1930's vinyl table (the vinyl was in really bad shape...transformed into a truly beautiful piece. cherish a bit of history... (table measures 44" length x 25" width x 31" height) perfect anywhere in your home...
