repurposed coffee chaff tote

earlier this year we moved out of our home office and into warehouse space we share with our friends from paupaiz coffee. (their excellent, organic freshly roasted coffee is available on our website). one day rebecca, one of the owners of paupaiz, and i were discussing possible uses for coffee chaff...a waste product that occurs when you roast coffee beans...and we realized how beneficial it is for adding nitrogen to the soil. rebecca is a very talented seamstress and pretty soon we had a prototype for a tote bag made from reused coffee bean sacks stuffed with chaff. she made tote handles from repurposed denim and decorative patches made from damaged bean sacks. the result? a beautiful, stylish, handcrafted tote and approx 1 1/2 lbs of coffee bean chaff. what a beautiful and unique gift for the beloved gardeners in your life...heck, this is a perfect treat for you, too! each tote is handcrafted so no two will be alike...they measure approximately 16"h x 15" w. **note: coffee bean chaff adds helpful nutrients (mainly nitrogen) to compound and mulch mixtures. use chaff with any type of plant life where you use compound or mulch mixes. it is excellent for speeding the growth of vegetables, especially tomato plants. and for flowers?...oh my! our rose garden has never been more beautiful. we also learned that adding coffee bean chaff to gardens helps to ward off harmful slugs and snails, reducing the damage they would typically create for your plant life...how cool is that? a little goes a long way so ensure you add the chaff to mulch mixes...not directly to the garden.
